Helpful expert advice for Slic3r!

SLICER LOGO

Hey guys, my apologies I have been SWAMPED and have not had much time to actually sit down and give some helpful advice.

This week, I wanted to share with you a nifty little thing you can do with the latest Slic3r, called:

‘Variable Layer Height’.

Its basically just like it sounds.. this nifty little setting allows you to set variable layer heights throughout a single object!! Pretty friggin cool if you ask me..and I plan to definitely give this a test(will post pictures when done) here in the next week.

I can haz variable layer heights?

The variable layer height options are available by double clicking on a part name in the Plater window. This will cause a pop-up window to be displayed which contains two tabs. The first gives some information about the model, the second tab(fig. below) presents a table where each row defines a layer height for a particular range along the Z axis, given in millimeters…variable_layer_height_options_tab_2
PRO TIP:
An additional feature of the variable layers height option is that by entering a zero( 0 ) for a range( 0mm – 10mm) that part of the model will not be printed. This could come in handy if you wanted to do a quick cut on a uneven base or whatever other curve balls STL files can throw at you.
>>>>>>> Here is the official Slic3r page regarding this option and how to correctly make use of it. <<<<<<<

If you have any advice on this topic, feel free to leave a message. I hope this helps some of you out there caught in the chase of flawless prints..

Have a great week everyone and stay tuned in for Mobious Robotics updates, tutorials and more, until next time..stay classy Reprap.

-papabur 🙂

Breathing life back into Mobious Robotics…

(Revamped n faded)Mobious Logo

Hello world!

My apologies I have not been doing regular post’s for you guys for the last couple of month’s. I have been super busy working other jobs to get funds up to bring to you guys, the sE1X v2.0, by Mobious Robotics LLC.

The goal is to have it ready for launch within the next 60 days(early September) which means kits, kits and more kits. I will be joining local meetups to help promote my design and increase sales, as well as improve the website and over all appearance of Mobious Robotics LLC.

Thank you to all of you that have hung in there and helped me along the way, I appreciate you…now for some good stuff…

How to address the issues..Magma hotend (3mm-0.4mm)

LoHs magma demo

The Magma hot-end has gotten a very bad rep because of poor performance most likely from the job being rushed to try and save TrinityLabs LLC. If you happen to be oen of the ones to end up with a Magma hot-end and want to try and get it to function properly, well here is a walk-through of what another member in the Reprap community put together for it.

Mobo Roboto weekly Friday update for April 15th, 2016

soldier-holding-american-flag-image-41425420

Let me just start by saying, MAN WHAT A CRAZY (!!!) MONTH(*&!@

So I started the month out with 2 refunds which drained most of my savings so needless to say, it has been a slow month for me(other then the MKS boards selling out quick! MORE COMING SOON W/ PRICE BREAK FOR REPRAP IRC COMMUNITY MEMBERS). I recently decided to try out some new control boards, because I had negative experiences with my previous choice, no biggie…for me anyways.

I started a new part-time job as a cashier he locally which will give me some extra funds to put into Mobious Robotics and help not only grow the company, but the community as well. This has unfortunately cut into my time spent working on my new 3D Printer designs and improvements to the sE1x, so I apologize in advance for you new guys who are now having to wait a day or two to get a response from me! I will try my best to communicate my availability days/times and, as always, I will be in the Reprap Google Hangout every Saturday at Noon(pacific) and I highly encourage new sE1X owners to try and make it if you can!

I just got my order of 300x300mm silicone heaters that actually have a adhesive side as well as the thermistor already built in!!! I will have them up on the site today for you guys to check out…other then that I still have 1 sE1X v1.5(single extruder/ .4/1.75mm Jhead hotend) kit ready to ship and another one well on its way. I’m also still doing the $25.00 referral bonus for those of you who refer someone to Mobious Robotics and they purchase a sE1X, you will get 25 bucks via Paypal! 😀 😀 \o/ \o/

Alright, thats about it for now, I will be doing weekly posts from now on to let you all know whats going on over here at Mobious. As always, thanks for your time and happy printing!!!

(http://3ders.org) Injection molding meets 3D printing in this 300 piece 3D printed injection molding machine!

injection-molding-meets-3d-printing-300-piece-3d-printed-molding-machine

ALL LINKS WILL OPEN IN NEW TABS!

“Is 3D printing a viable and affordable alternative to injection molding production?”

Original 3ders article on this debate..

Awesome article pointed out to me by thews on IRC this morning. I thought it was worth sharing as this is a common debate in the reprap community as to which is quicker/better; 3d printing or injection molding?

Thank you thews for sharing this article with us! Have a great week everyone and thanks for stopping in!

sE1X v1.5 VS. Fortus 450mc !!!!

DSC00563

Check out the amazing results below Chris Morewood was able to get with his sE1X v1.5(Running on a Smoothieboard 5xc). In the picture you’ll notice he points out a small flaw with the infill and the perimeters not quite touching in 2 spots but I think this is more a slicer config setting then the 3d printer/control board itself.

Thank you very much Chris ‘ChrisM37’ Morewood for this awesome comparison work and I look forward to seeing your future prints!!! Well done. 🙂

Smoothieboards don’t live up to the hype…

42-tm_thickbox_default

When I first got my hands on a smoothieboard, I was ecstatic. I had heard such good things about them, and they where made by guys I used to work with at Trinitylabs with Ezra Zygmuntowicz(..granted they only had to actually show up once or twice in the company’s life span..most where granted the privilege of working from home). It started out fine…I had a issue here and there but nothing too major and for the first couple of month’s, I could usually get assistance in #smoothieware on IRC..but once I started having more serious issues, I suddenly was waiting longer and longer for replies…until eventually I just wouldn’t get one..and I used to work with these guys, not to mention I just bought 10 of their control boards and probably would have got 10 more if not for the bad experience with wolfman_jm in the #smoothieware channel.

Eventually I had tested all 10 of the boards…out of the 10, only 6 actually worked ok out of the box(some later on would develop issues such as D/C’ing randomly in the middle of prints among some other pretty serious issues..). When I addressed the smoothieboard owners about my customers having issues with the boards they sold me, I would just get told that it’s my problem now and that I had to pay for it, not them…this is just for starters…

Now that I have found a great alternative (the MKS sbase boards I now offer here at Mobious Robotics) I have been getting trolled/harassed daily by the smoothieboard guys. Such users as Chris Cecil and Arthur Wolf (and now LoH, who I thought was a friend..) have gone, at great lengths, to start rumors regarding my personal affairs and my reputation on IRC in the reprap community…just goes to show what type of people they are if they will go to these length’s simply because I decided to use a different control board.

For months, I was the bigger person who had to walk away and defuse situations( such as ccecil bashing and bad mouthing  Ezra Zygmuntowicz who has recently passed away..and the person I’ve dedicated this company to..) but I can no longer stand by and not only allow them to keep harassing me and my business, but to continue to RIP OFF THE REPRAP COMMUNITY. These guys are taking 50$(Have been told in PM by smoothieboard worker) control boards and selling them upwards of around 200$, even knowing they have issues and are not worth that much.

I spend a lot of my time giving back to the reprap community, I hold calibration hangouts on the weekends..I do 1 on 1’s with new comers to help assist them in getting their 3d printer going..and I help answer questions in the #reprap channel..it is very bothersome that these guys don’t care enough to not only help out with the reprap community but instead of seeing a awesome, open source community that revolves around FFF and all the benefits to our society that come along with it, they just see $ signs…

Please keep in mind I have no reason or benefit to lie/make stuff up. I feel this is the only way they are going to realize that no matter how much they threaten me and try to muzzle me, I will always keep fighting to be treated equally.

I would highly suggest you consider other ALTERNATIVES if you are in the market for a control board, thank you for your time and happy printing!
